Militarymedia.net - After officially acquiring two batteries of the Iron Dome hanud system, the U.S. Army (U.S. Army) in the Army Expeditionary Warrior Experiment program, spun off other types of weapons made in Israel. Reportedly after conducting anti-tank missile use exercises, U.S. Army troops were interested in anti-tank missiles carried by Spike SR type made by Rafael Advanced Defence Systems Ltd.
The U.S. Army's interest in Spike SR is because the anti-tank missiles used by the 35 countries have light weight, strong power and much easier use than javelin missiles that are now the mainstay of the U.S. Army infantry. From the report said, U.S. soldiers who often operate on the battlefield, are satisfied with the performance of Spike SR.
In terms of range, the Spike SR has the shortest range, but gradually increases from 800 meters to 2,000 meters through upgrades. The advantage of Spike SR is said to be at a high level of precision. Spike SR uses three guide systems based on thermal and television heads (electro optical), namely shot and forget, shot-adjust and shot-saw-aim.
By comparison, the more famous Javelin has only one choice of shooting modes, namely shot and forget. In terms of range, the Javelin is indeed 500 meters superior to Spike SR.
Although there are opportunities for Spiker SR, it is not easy to market Spike SR to the U.S. Army, because the Pentagon has signed a contract for the procurement of 45 thousand Javelin until 2050. The Javelin missile itself is a joint venture between Lockheed Martin and Raytheon Rockets & Defense.
At a glance, spike SR, this missile can be launched by braided. Spike SR weighs only 9.6 kg and adopts an integrated launcher with disposable launcher model. From the specifications, this missile has an effective firing range ranging from 50 - 2,000 meters.
To be ready for use, the batteries on the missile will be ready in less than 6 seconds. There are three types of warheads offered, namely high energy, fragentation and anti structural.
